Our Lady of Guadalupe
In 1531, Saint Juan Diego, an indigenous Mexican convert, witnessed a series of Marian apparitions on Tepeyac Hill near Mexico City. The Virgin Mary, appearing as Our Lady of Guadalupe, requested a shrine in her honor. As a sign for the local bishop, she miraculously imprinted her image on Juan Diego’s tilma (a simple cloak) which remains preserved and venerated to this day.
