Making

HAND-Blown Glass

Each piece begins with recycled glass, much of it recovered from schools and discarded bottles, including the distinctive green glass of Mexican Coca-Cola bottles. Once molten, the glass must be shaped quickly while still hot and responsive. Everything depends on the skill of the blower, knowing when to turn, stretch, open, or compress the form into balance.

Such a handmade process leaves its traces: variations in shape, thickness, color, and the natural bubbles trapped in the walls are all signatures of the process. No two pieces are ever exactly alike, and that is part of their beauty.
