Designer
Eugenio Escudero, was a Spanish designer who relocated to Mexico in the 1940s fleeing the Spanish Civil War. He became a defining figure in the emergence of Mexican Modernism. His furniture blended European modernist principles with the warmth of Mexican craftsmanship which resulted in elegant, sculptural pieces distinguished by refined lines, rich woods, and brass accents. Active through the mid-20th century, Escudero’s work embodies the sophistication and organic sensibility that characterized Mexico’s unique and iconic interpretation of Mid-Century design.
