Painted clay Alebrije Devil Pipes from Ocumicho

Sale price$87.00

The Purépecha town of San Pedro Ocumicho, in the state of Michoacán, is renowned for its pottery tradition of "clay little devils." Unlike many artisan practices in Mexico, the devils of Ocumicho seem to have a specific date and a name that sets them apart.

According to oral tradition, this type of clay representation was started in the 1960s by the master craftsman Marcelino Vicente, to whom the devil supposedly appeared, demanding to be represented in clay.

These are new little "devil" pipes, for whatever you want to use them.
