Udder Pitcher

The Udder Pitcher came out of a collaboration sponsored by Oax-i-fornia and the British Council Mexico between the ceramicist Billy Lloyd and Mujeres del Barro Rojo. Made of burnished red clay, it is a playful ode to the cattle that graze around the artisan community of San Marcos Tlapazola.

Our clay comes from San Marcos Tlapazola in the Tlacolula Valley, where it is handworked for the body of the pieces. Then, a red clay slip is applied and meticulously burnished with a corn cob. No molds are used, and each piece is thrown by hand, one by one, ensuring that every piece is unique.
