Retablos & Milagros
A retablo is a devotional painting, sculpture, or a combination of both, enclosed in an elaborate frame. In Mexican folk religion, retablos are crucial as they physically represent holy figures like Christ, the Virgin Mother, or various saints. They fulfill the human desire to connect personally with divine spirits.
Milagros (or Miracles) are religious charms used for healing and as offerings in Mexico, the southern United States, and other Latin American regions. They are commonly found on altars, shrines, and sacred objects in places of worship. Each milagro is shaped to represent a specific need or intention, such as an arm milagro for a broken arm or a heart milagro for love or gratitude to a saint for granting their prayer.
