Jipijapa is a palm that grows in Yucatan and Campeche and that takes its name fom the famous palm of Ecuador, where the finest hats are made from the same plant. Each palm is carefully split into 2, 3 or 4 "partidas" the finer the split the harder and more laborious is the weaving, and the finer the piece that results.
