Casa Oaxaca Ixcatlan Palm Placemat Oval

The Ixcatepec Placemat is woven in nudo mixteco, an intricate technique used for pieces that require exceptional strength and durability.

Over the years, several iterations have been made for Alejandro Ruiz and his brother Marco Antonio at Casa Oaxaca, keeping the tables fresh through daily breakfast and lunch service. Organic and unmistakably Oaxacan, the placemats create a natural setting for Alejandro’s reinvention of the region’s cuisine.

Made in Oaxaca
Our palm pieces are hand woven in the Mixteca region of Oaxaca and in the mountains of Guerrero. The palm is hand harvested using donkeys because of the treacherous sites and altitude where the palm grows.  After gathering, the palm is dried and previous to weaving, soaked in water for a few hours. The palm is then taken to caves carved in the back yards of the weavers to keep them in a temperature controlled environment, and to be split and finally hand woven. A work of dedication and love for the craft.
