Zinapécuaro Duck Pair

Sale price$950.00

Hand-formed sgraffito bird vessels from Zinapécuaro, Michoacán — large and small, made to be read together. Each is shaped by hand into an abstracted avian form with a rounded body, elongated neck, and quietly expressive profile. The surface is worked through esgrafiado — a technique in which patterns are incised directly into the clay, emerging through subtraction rather than paint. Finished in deep tonal browns and blacks, the carved decoration reveals itself as light moves across the surface. Sold as a pair.

About the Ceramics of Zinapécuaro
Rooted in generations of ceramic knowledge in eastern Michoacán, Zinapécuaro pottery is known for its richly worked surfaces, earthy tonalities, and deeply tactile presence. The esgrafiado technique — lines scratched, carved, and revealed by hand — transforms each vessel into a drawing in clay. Neither purely vessel nor simply sculpture, these objects exist somewhere in between: shaped for living, collecting, and inhabiting a space over time.

Domingo de Ramos — Juried Selection
The Domingo de Ramos tianguis in Uruapan, Michoacán is one of Mexico's most celebrated popular art markets, and home to an annual juried competition hosted by Casa de la Cultura. Each piece in this collection was recognized for exceptional craftsmanship and selected by Raul Cabra, curator and founder of La Embajada.

About Handmade Pieces
Crafted by hand using techniques passed down through generations of master artisans. Variations in color, texture, and finish are inherent to the process — each piece is, by nature, one of a kind.
