Mexico’s markets are filled with thousands of objects: ceramics, paintings, sculptures, household pieces, strange inventions, and anonymous treasures. Of all the objects Raúl encounters across Mexico, only a very small number are chosen for La Embajada.
Every piece is selected personally. Some stand out because of their history or design. Others are simply beautiful, funny, unusual, or impossible to leave behind.

Bargaining in Mexico is older than the peso. In the pre-Hispanic tianguis, objects were traded directly or valued with cacao beans and cotton cloth. Value depended on scarcity, quality, need, and the people making the exchange, so a fair price was something to be arrived at together. That conversation continues in Mexican markets today.

The market is open for bargaining every Sunday and Monday, from 9 AM to 5 PM.
SEE SOMETHING YOU LOVE in Vintage Objects & Art? Click Make an Offer on the product page and submit your offer. We may say yes, make a counteroffer, or decide we are not quite ready to part with it. All offers are reviewed over the weekend and you will hear back by Monday at noon. A submitted offer does not hold a piece. It is yours only once payment is complete. At noon on Monday, the market closes. Anything not settled returns to full price until the following Saturday, when the conversation can begin again from scratch.
Bargaining applies to vintage objects and art only. Vintage furniture, shipping, and all other collections are not included.

How We shop
We find vintage through dealers, estate sales, and private sellers, but most often, and most interestingly, in Mexico’s markets. Every city has its own, and each tends to preserve a different moment in time: Puebla leans colonial, Mexico City toward mid-century modern, Guadalajara toward vintage craft, while Oaxaca offers an unpredictable mix of everything. Some markets are better than others, but all are fascinating. We arrive early, search, ask questions, bargain, and choose only the pieces we would happily live with ourselves.

Living with vintage
My approach to designing a space begins with objects that already have a life. I like to place timeworn furniture and collected pieces alongside contemporary design, not to recreate the past, but to let different periods speak to one another. Vintage brings memory, surprise, and a little mystery; it keeps a room from feeling overly finished. The result should feel layered, personal, and entirely livable, as though every object arrived there for a reason.
