About Glazed Ceramics from Tangancícuaro
Originally developed in the mid-20th century by artisan Doña Elisa Madrigal Martínez, the now-iconic pineapple transformed a local pottery tradition into something sculptural, celebratory, and unmistakably Michoacán. Each piece is built by hand through a meticulous process of pastillaje — hundreds of individually formed clay elements create the texture of the fruit before layers of luminous glaze are applied. At once vessel and sculpture, the pineapple has come to symbolize abundance, hospitality, and the enduring creativity of Purépecha ceramic culture.
Domingo de Ramos — Juried Selection
The Domingo de Ramos tianguis in Uruapan, Michoacán is one of Mexico's most celebrated popular art markets, and home to an annual juried competition hosted by Casa de la Cultura. Each piece in this collection was recognized for exceptional craftsmanship and selected by Raul Cabra, curator and founder of La Embajada.
About Handmade Pieces
