About the Metalwork of Michoacán
Metalworking has been part of Michoacán’s identity for centuries. Long before the arrival of the Spanish, the Purépecha people were among the most accomplished metallurgists in the Americas, renowned for their mastery of copper, gold, silver, and casting techniques. Today, that legacy continues through workshops across the state, where artisans transform molten metal into objects that balance utility with sculpture. These napkin rings are individually cast in white metal and finished by hand. We were drawn to them not only for their craftsmanship, but for their unmistakable sense of joy. In Mexico, everyday objects are often infused with humor and imagination, and these small sculptures embody that spirit perfectly. Whether gathered around a linen napkin or resting on a shelf between meals, they remind us that beautiful objects should never take themselves too seriously.
